Queer X Desire

29.04 - 03.06.2016

In celebration of the theatrical release of Desire Will Set You Free Sprechsaal is delighted to invite you to participate in a show of identity deconstruction. We will be celebrating artists involved with and inspiration to the new berlin Queer camp film Desire Will Set You Free Bundesweiter Kinostart: 05.05.2016 Premiere on the 2nd of Mai Kino International. As the director says “I don’t want to show people what the world is like, I want to show people what the world can be, for all it’s dirty, sexual, crazy, campy and colorful potential.” We share the same goal with this show. Berlin is a city of division and distraction, of death and depravity, of rebirth and rediscovery, and since Christopher Isherwood penned his Berlin novels, the international capital has held a place of interest for those that feel alienated from the mainstream. It has been a capital of sexual diversity and gender deconstruction. Queer x Desire explores the diversity of what it means to be Queer and whether desire can truly set us free or only entrap us. The truly diverse international group of artists will exhibit multifaceted work including documenting queer radicals in the city, drawings of hustler bars, large scale sigil paintings and alien costumes. The show is as diverse as sexuality itself. We refuse the overly processed, rather we want to investigate the raw, and psychedelic. There will be weekly events, film screenings, poetry readings, performances, and lectures during the 5 weeks the show is up at the Sprechsaal gallery in relation to the topic Queer X Desire.

Bundesweiter Kinostart: 05.05.2016.
